BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

DISCONTINUE ANY STRONG TOPICAL MEDICATIONS SUCH AS RETINOIDS, HYDROQUINONE OR ACNE MEDICATION AS WELL AS PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN GLYCOLIC OR SALICYLIC ACIDS AND HEAVY EXFOLIANTS FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 DAYS PRIOR TO ANY APPOINTMENT BUT ESPECIALLY BEFORE CHEMICAL PEELS AND WAXING. SOME CHEMICAL PEELS MAY REQUIRE AVOIDANCE OF RETINOIDS FOR UP TO 4 WEEKS POST PROCEDURE. IF YOU ARE PRONE TO COLD SORES, OTC OR PRESCRIPTION ANTIVIRAL MEDICATION SHOULD BE TAKEN BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SKIN POST-TREATMENT

DERMAPLANING

Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser and warm, not hot, water. Splash water on face and pat dry. Do not use abrasive cleansers, wash cloths, Clarisonic, or hot shower spray for the first 24-48 hours. Do not use cleansers, serums or spot treatments containing retinol, salicylic acid or Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) for 5 days following treatment.

Tone: Hydrating and brightening toners applied with a cotton round will penetrate deeper into the skin. If you are sensitive, try all products on a small area before applying full face.

Serums: Active ingredients in serums penetrate much better now, so you’ll see quicker results. Lily will advise you on what serums are best at this point. Please do not use Retin-A for 5 days pre and post dermaplaning.

Moisturizer: Choose a hydrating moisturizer and apply twice daily. It’s common for skin to feel tight but dewy to the touch. This is good and will only last a short time. Moisturizer locks in skin’s hydration with the added absorption of its active ingredients.

SPF: Your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays after exfoliation. SPF is essential to protect your skin - even on cloudy days when UVA (aging) rays are present.

Makeup: Makeup can irritate skin after dermaplaning. Bacteria, alcohols, colorants and fragrance are all irritants that can cause contact dermatitis. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes, replace your sponges and apply clean (new) makeup to minimize risks. Try to use mineral makeup and clean cosmetics always.

  • Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you must be in the sun, apply and reapply SPF every 2 hours, wear a hat and seek shade.

  • Delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms and saunas for 24-48 hours post treatment.

  • Wait 7 days before having any facial waxing done.

  • Schedule your appointments 4 weeks apart to optimize results.

  • Text or call with any concerns.

MICRONEEDLING

Immediately after your treatment, you may look and as though you have a moderate sunburn and your skin will feel warm and tighter than usual. This is normal and usually subsides within a few hours or by the next day. You may still see redness for up to 48 hours but it is typically minimal and just in areas. Tightness, dryness, flaking and peeling are all normal and usually resolve within 3-5 days.

Lily will discuss post procedure skincare products to help soothe, protect and support your skin. Use this regimen for 3-5 days. Your usual skincare regimen can be resumed again after day 3. If you find that your skin is feeling sensitive extend this period to 5 days. Reserve exfoliants and retinoids for at least 5 days and up to 2 weeks unless otherwise directed.

For optimal healing following the recommendations below:

Cleanse with water and a mild cleanser and gently pat dry the treated area. No scrubbing!

Avoid exfoliators and retinoids for 3-5 days unless otherwise directed.

Apply hyaluronic acid and/or moisturizer a.m. and p.m. and as needed throughout the day. Cool your skin with mineral mist, cool compresses or ice. Use topical balm as directed if you experience excessive dryness, peeling or itching.

Make-up should not be applied for 12 hours after the procedure.

Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours and practice sun/heat avoidance for the first 3-5 days depending on the intensity of your treatment. If sun avoidance isn’t possible then apply a physical/mineral sunblock with an SPF 30 or higher.

Avoid heat, strenuous activity, swimming or exercise for the first 24 hours post-treatment.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Excessive heat should be avoided immediately after your treatment for the first 48 hours. This includes aerobic exercise or vigorous physical activity, saunas, hot tubs and/or anything that will elevate your body temperature or cause sweating Many peels require that the skin not be wet for 8 hours post treatment.

Direct exposure to sunlight is to be completely avoided immediately following treatment and up to 2 weeks while skin is peeling. If direct sunlight cannot be avoided a physical sunblock of SPF 30 or greater should be applied first and the treated area should be shielded by a hat or clothing.

Allow your peel to remain on your skin as long as directed. Do not wet skin during this time frame. After that you should cleanse with water or a mild cleanser in the morning and evening. Pat skin dry gently and moisturize as directed. Use mist and additional moisturizer including post-procedure creams as needed. Should you experience extreme irritation or itching please contact Lily asap so she can advise you further.

Avoid apply any type of exfoliation or retinol products for 3-5 days post treatment unless otherwise directed.

DO NOT pick, peel, rub or scratch your skin.

WAXING

Avoid applying heat to the waxed area for 12 hours.

Avoid sun for 12 hours.

Avoid using exfoliators on newly waxed area including retinol for 24 hours.

Avoid chemical sunscreens 12-24 hours as well as self-tanners.

Any pinking of the skin should disappear within 6-8 hours after your treatment.

For best results repeat every 4-6 weeks. Brows may require attention every 2 weeks.

CRYOTHERAPY

Your treated area will immediately turn darker, and you might experience some tingling or itching for a few hours after treatment.

The treatment site will remain dark for about 10 days after which when your skin will “slough” off the dead tissue. Next, you will see pink healthy tissue which will return to your normal skin color in a few weeks.

In some cases, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for normal pigmentation to return.

A second treatment is sometimes required to achieve desired results.

Keep the area hydrated and protected from the sun.
