Summer Skin: My Favorite Tips for Healthy, Glowing Skin ☀️

Summer is one of my favorite seasons—longer days, boating, pool time, vacation, and lots of sunshine! It's also the time of year when I see the most sun damage, dehydration, and pigmentation in the treatment room.

Here are a few of my favorite tips to help keep your skin healthy all summer long.

☀️ Sunscreen Matters

I get asked all the time, "What SPF should I wear?"

Here's my rule of thumb:

  • SPF 50 Mineral if you're spending the day outdoors—boating, at the beach, by the pool, golfing, playing pickleball, or at outdoor events.

  • SPF 30 is perfect for everyday life when you're mostly indoors or just running errands.

One thing many people don't realize is that mineral sunscreens protect immediately, while chemical sunscreens need about 20 minutes before they're fully effective. If you're using a chemical sunscreen, apply it before you leave the house.

And don't forget to reapply every two hours when you're outside!

💧 Hydrate From the Inside Out

Your skin can only look as hydrated as your body feels.

Water is important, but during our hot Florida summers, electrolytes make a huge difference too.

One of my current favorites is LMNT. I keep samples in the office because I genuinely love them. My go-to flavors right now are Watermelon Salt, Raspberry Salt, Lemonade Salt, and the new Arnold Palmer (Lemonade Tea with Caffeine).

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people not fully removing their sunscreen at the end of the day.
